Important

The sponsoring relative must be either a U.S. citizen (Green Card holder) or a permanent resident (US citizen). You can download the application guide here if the sponsoring relative holds a Green Card. If the sponsoring relative is not a U.S citizen, however, you can download the “Green Card through Family” Application Guide.
To be able to work and live permanently in the United States, a foreign national must first become a permanent residence (Green Card holder). A relative of a U.S. permanent residence is one of the easiest ways to obtain a Green Card (U.S. Permanent Resident Status). If they meet the criteria and their permanent residents relatives are willing to sponsor them, spouses and children of permanent citizens can apply for green card status. The Green Card through Permanent Resident Family Application Guide will show you how to apply for a Green Card via your Green Card holder relative.
An alien citizen who is married to or a parent of a permanent resident in America may be eligible for permanent residency. This is also known as a Green card. The sponsor must be willing to help the Green Card applicant’s spouse or parent financially. To be eligible for a Green Card by sponsoring a permanent resident relative, there are no education requirements.

A Green Card holder may sponsor the following relatives:

  • Spouse is a legal married man or woman who lives with permanent residents
  • Permanent residents with minor children
  • Permanent residents can have unmarried children of any age.

Spouses

For more information about how U.S. citizens and permanent residents can sponsor a spouse (legally-married husband or wife) to a Green Card, refer to the Green Card Through Marriage Application Guide.

Siblings

If your sister or brother is a legal permanent resident (Green Card holder), they are not eligible for you to sponsor them to live and work in the United States. Siblings can only be sponsored by U.S. citizens. For more information, download the Green Card through the Relatives Application Guide.
